UBP MP Ahmet Savaşan stated that the integration of environmental policies with health policies is an important step and emphasized that the work for the establishment of a climate change branch has been accelerated.

 

National Unity Party (UBP) MP Ahmet Savaşan If it is CTP MP Filiz Besim’shared information about the second meeting of the Heads of Health Commissions of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Noting that they represented the country at the meeting held on January 21, Savaşan stated that “Climate Change and Health: The Role and Intervention of the Legislature” was discussed at the meeting.

In his speech at the meeting, Savaşan noted that he drew attention to the risks of climate change and called for cooperation. Savaşan stated that he also conveyed what needs to be done in the fight against climate change and gave examples of these.

Stating that the importance of the work to be carried out and the measures to be taken by the legislative bodies of the countries in this context were also emphasized at the meeting, Savaşan listed the steps to be taken, such as raising awareness in society, sharing information and resources.

Deputy Savaşan stated that integrating environmental policies with health policies is the most important step that can be taken in this sense and that the Parliament has a great responsibility.

Savaşan also shared the developments that the work for the establishment of a climate change branch is being accelerated, that an article of the protocol to be signed with the Turkish Ministry of Urbanization in the coming days will be about climate change and that a special committee will be established to include all ministries and stakeholders.

BESIM: THERE ARE SERIOUS LESSONS TO BE LEARNED

Participating in the meeting Filiz Besim at the Speaker of the House Ziya Öztürkler’s request, took the floor.

Besim noted that they went there representing the Health Committee of the Parliament and stated that this important issue was discussed by the health committees of the Turkic States and what the legislative bodies could do.

Stating that there are serious lessons to be learned, Besim wished that the issue would be brought to the agenda “sincerely” and the necessary laws would be enacted; he drew attention to the multidisciplinary aspect of the issue.
