If a sustainable agreement can be made on this island, it is inevitable that agreements will be made to share the riches in the Eastern Mediterranean and to resolve disputes. This is where the international dimension of the problem stems from. Turkey, the UK and Greece are guarantors. In this sense, the problem is an international problem, but the main issue is that the world is changing. The emerging riches and the strategic location of Cyprus, with its control over important waterways, require a solution to the problem.
