UBP MP Dr. Ahmet Sava\u015fan said that the failure to realize equal representation and participation for women, which is one of the basic elements of democracy, is not only a problem of inequality between women and men, but also an important problem of democracy.<\/p>\n
National Unity Party (UBP) MP and Nicosia District President Dr. Ahmet Sava\u015fan emphasized that the fact that women, who constitute half of the population, cannot participate in decision-making processes at an adequate rate and cannot be represented equally in politics is an important problem of democracy.<\/p>\n
Publishing a message on the occasion of International Women's Rights Day, Ahmet Sava\u015fan stated that although women are better off in many areas such as education, choice of profession and working conditions compared to the past years, the same development has not been achieved in political life.<\/p>\n
\u201cDESPITE LEGAL ARRANGEMENTS, EQUALITY HAS NOT BEEN ACHIEVED\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n Ahmet Sava\u015fan pointed out that despite all the legal arrangements made in the TRNC, the under-representation of women, who make up half of the population, in decision-making processes distracts the decisions taken from pluralism and said, \u201cIn this respect, in order to strengthen democratic life and to be more effective in eliminating gender-based inequalities, women should be able to reach equal proportions in politics or at least % 30, which is considered as a critical threshold. For this, all stakeholders, especially us politicians, have important duties.\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cATAT\u00dcRK TOOK THE NECESSARY STEPS FOR GENDER EQUALITY BEFORE MANY EU COUNTRIES\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Sava\u015fan reminded that Atat\u00fcrk stated that \u201cif a society does not march to the same goal with all its women and men, there is no technical possibility and no scientific possibility for it to progress and become civilized\u201d and that Turkish women should have equal rights with men in social and cultural fields, education, law, family, working life, social life and politics and gave women the right to elect and be elected as deputies on December 5, 1934.<\/p>\n \u201cWE MUST ACT TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE GENDER EQUALITY\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Reminding that in 1934, the number of countries in the world where women had the legal right to elect and be elected as deputies was 28 and the number of countries where this right was exercised was 17, Sava\u015fan said: \u201cIn order to ensure the active participation of women in political life with the inspiration we take from the early years of our Turkey, of which we are an integral part, we must first of all take the necessary steps together to ensure that the basic principle of gender equality, that is, gender equality, is actually implemented in the education and training life of our children, starting from pre-school education, and then in all institutions and organizations of society.\u201d.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" UBP MP Dr. Ahmet Sava\u015fan said that the failure to realize equal representation and participation for women, which is one of the basic elements of democracy, is not only a problem of inequality between women and men, but also an important problem of democracy.
