Cyprus Health Tourism Council President Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan participated in the Markaj program presented by Ali Baturay on Kıbrıs TV and talked about his views on tourism and politics.

Ahmet Savaşan, who is a Party Assembly Member candidate from Nicosia in the National Unity Party's Congress to be held today, underlined that the perception that politics is done for profit shakes the trust in politics and that the members elected to the assemblies of the parties, national deputies, ministers, ministers and all people in political cadres have important duties in order to destroy this perception.

Stating that the Pati Assemblies have extremely important duties in terms of producing politics for their parties and the people of the country in all areas of life, Ahmet Savaşan said that when looking at the assemblies, deputies and staff of the parties, it is possible to see the minarets of the village where that political party can take the country. “Today's election is a family election. It is a service race. There are no winners and losers here. Those who are elected will serve in the party assembly and those who are not elected will serve in other organs or committees of the party. The goal is common, the goal is to contribute to the production of contemporary policies that meet the needs of the day. All our fellow candidates are assets. Our members will elect the president and party assembly members they believe will best serve our party and our country.”.

We close our foreign trade deficit with tourism...

Pointing out that Northern Cyprus receives a significant share from tourism when both the number of tourists coming to Northern Cyprus and the added value created are considered, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan said, “Nearly half of the total foreign exchange revenues of the TRNC are obtained from tourism. The sum of tourism revenues in our country (700 million USD) and the revenues obtained within the scope of educational tourism (700 million USD) is around 1.4 billion USD. This figure meets the TRNC's foreign trade deficit,” he said.

Tourism movements exceeded 1 billion 235 million people...

In 2017, Savaşan explained that international tourism movements increased despite all the negativities experienced in the world and said that international tourism movements exceeded 1 billion 235 million people. Underlining that the travel and tourism industry is one of the main components of economic development and employment in the world, Savaşan stated that the travel and tourism industry directly contributes more than USD 2.3 trillion and provides 109 million jobs worldwide. When its indirect and induced contribution is taken into account, the industry's contribution reaches USD 7.6 trillion and the number of jobs it provides is 292 million.

Sustainable tourism is a universal goal...

Stating that sustainable tourism is the only way to spread tourism and travel throughout the country and for 12 months, to protect and develop natural, historical and cultural heritage and to present it to future generations, Savaşan said: “It is now well understood that natural, historical and cultural values damaged during tourism activities are not the property of a single nation, a single country, but of all humanity. For this reason, sustainable tourism is a universal goal, not a national or regional one.”.

We must consume resources knowing the limits of what the planet can offer

Underlining that sustainability in all areas of life, especially in tourism, can only be possible in a healthy environment, Savaşan stated that the healthy future of the world depends on consuming resources knowing the limits of what the planet can offer.

Ahmet Savaşan stated that people today do not see travel as a luxury, on the contrary, they see it as necessary to protect their health, and pointed out that “in our age where time is very precious, people are using their travel periods more and more every day; to quit smoking, to get in shape and to find healing with methods that heal the soul and body such as detox (especially technology detox), yoga-meditation.

There is a great interest in everything slow and ecological...

Stating that the world we live in is gradually disappearing, Savaşan said that everyone is now aware of the need to take care of everything from production to vacation, and that this has aroused great interest in everything slow and ecological in the world, including travel.

The use of information technologies in tourism is inevitable...

Underlining that in an environment where everything is rapidly changing and renewed in the global economy, businesses need to adapt to the current changes in order to carry out their activities successfully, Ahmet Savaşan said that it is an inevitable necessity for businesses in the tourism sector to use information technologies, which are the basis of the new economy, in their businesses and to be adorned with all kinds of innovation-based developments in order to achieve sustainable success and to continue their activities efficiently.

The 3 S's in tourism have turned into 3 E's...

Stating that tourism businesses are included in the service sector, Savaşan said that people are the ones who receive services. “All kinds of developments and progress are initiated by people in order to serve people and to gain welfare. It is almost impossible for the tourism sector to stay out of this change. Touristic product diversity started traditionally with 3-S (sea-sand-sun= sea-sand-sand-sun) but today it has turned into 3-E (exciting-educational-entertainment= exciting-educational-entertaining).”.

Both travel and health trends will increase...

Stating that there are changes in the trends in tourism as in everything else, Ahmet Savaşan said that the new profile is after meeting and talking to different people, discovering new cultures, learning while traveling around the world, in short, becoming a ‘traveler”. Ahmet Savaşan said that today's people are trying to regain their health, which they have lost in busy work and city life, in nature and back-to-yourself camps that include beauty, care cures, massage, aromatherapy, fitness, yoga and pilates, and that health tourism has become popular in recent years. Savaşan also stated that in many studies, both travel and health trends will gain even more importance in the coming years.

Necessary legal arrangements must be made...

Ahmet Savaşan said that the number of people who go to another country to receive health services in order to improve, protect or restore their health, as well as to use holiday elements in the process of receiving health services has exceeded 30 million, and that the political authority should truly accept health tourism as one of the main types of tourism in order to get more share from this sector, which is billions of dollars in size, and to increase tourism revenues in the TRNC and increase the domestic value added. Finally, Savaşan added that in order for Health Tourism to develop in the country, there is a need to incentivize, supervise and make the necessary legal arrangements in this field as in Turkey.
