Self Check, a professional monitoring system that offers early detection of breast cancer, was introduced today at a press conference with the participation of Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Health Tourism Council, Raziye Kocaismail, President of the Cancer Patients Aid Association, Bahar Gökhan, KHYD Board Member, Fevzi Tanpınar, Deputy General Manager of Telsim and Nil Zorlu Atai, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Telsim.
FIGHTING CANCER IS A GROWING HEALTH PROBLEM...
Stating that cancer is an increasing health problem worldwide and causes a significant socio-economic burden in societies and material and moral losses and difficulties in individuals, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Health Tourism Council, said that the fact that a significant part of cancer is preventable increases the importance given to this issue.

“Stating that ”World Cancer Day" is celebrated worldwide on February 4 every year in order to increase the level of awareness and consciousness about cancer, to get rid of common misconceptions, which is an important step in the fight against cancer, and to aim for the truth to reach everyone, Savaşan emphasized that the self-check application developed by the Health Tourism Council serves this purpose.
SELF-CHECK REMINDS THE USER OF INSPECTION TIMES...
Explaining that thanks to the mobile application, women will be able to record their monthly examinations and notice changes early, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan said that the application, which offers a professional follow-up system, will also remind the user of the most optimal examination times.
KOCAISMAIL 250-300 PEOPLE A YEAR GET BREAST CANCER...
Stating that there are 700 new cancer cases in Northern Cyprus annually, Raziye Kocaismail, President of the Cancer Patients’ Aid Association, emphasized in her speech that 1 in 3 of these cases is breast cancer. Underlining that an average of 250-300 people a year are diagnosed with breast cancer, Kocaismail said, ’We are looking for ways to reduce this number. As an association, we organize awareness-raising seminars and try to encourage mothers to go for check-ups with the “We love mothers very much” campaigns.

Stating that the Health Tourism Council has supported them in many activities to raise awareness of early diagnosis of cancer, Kocaismail said, “With the self-check application donated by the Health Tourism Council to the Cancer Patients Aid Association, from this day on, all women in our country will be able to download the application to their smartphones or tablets free of charge and perform breast checks at home with the right methods.”.

Underlining that the self-check application is of vital importance for healthy individuals, Raziye Kocaismail said, “Our aim is to raise awareness about early diagnosis and to direct our people to early diagnosis. I would like to thank Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, and the board of directors for donating this application, which both protects our people and sets an example at the most crucial point of the association at the moment, on behalf of each healthy individual and on behalf of our patients. KHYD Board Member Bahar Gökhan, who started his speech by stating that the application has a very important function, underlined that every healthy individual is a patient candidate. Gökhan said, “As someone who has faced cancer disease in his time and defeated cancer with great strength, I find the self-check application very important and I recommend that our young girls and women should definitely use it. Thanks to the application, our women will be able to access the right information about cancer, make their checks with the right methods and learn from the videos under which conditions they should consult a doctor.”.

Telsim Deputy General Manager Fevzi Tampınar said that their aim is to support the promotion of an important awareness application together with the Health Tourism Council and the Cancer Patients' Aid Association and to raise awareness about early diagnosis and pointed out the importance of self-check in his speech. Stating that the important thing is to be able to access the right information on cancer-related issues, Tanpınar said that thanks to the library in the self-check application, users are provided with accurate information about cancer and are also taught how to perform checks with the right methods.

Stating that they aim to deliver the self-check awareness application free of charge to all people living in the TRNC with both social media and the public spot to be prepared, Tanpınar explained that the application can be downloaded free of charge from google play or apple store. At the end of his speech, Tanpınar thanked Kocaismail and Savaşan for their contributions to the project and added that Telsim has always done its part in social responsibility projects and will continue to do so in the future.
