Elected for the second time as Vice President of the World Health Tourism Council, of which 58 countries are members, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, paved the way for the TRNC to become a candidate for the World Presidency.
According to the statement made by the Council, at the General Assembly of the Global Healthcare Travel Council (GHTC) held in Baku under the auspices of the Presidency of the Presidency of Azerbaijan, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan was elected as Vice President for the second time and it was pointed out that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) gained the right to be a candidate for the Presidency from next year.

In the statement emphasizing that delegates from more than 40 countries including Turkey, Germany, India, Russia, Croatia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, China, Poland and Kazakhstan attended the General Assembly Meeting, it was stated that Dr. Violetta Janyshevska from Ukraine and Dr. Bura Miljenko, former Deputy Minister of Health from Croatia competed for the presidency. In the statement, it was emphasized that Dr. Violetta Janyshevska won the presidency of the World Health Tourism Council (GHTC) with a difference of 1 vote and Dr. Ahmet Savaşan from TRNC was elected as World Vice President and Igor Torskyj was elected as Secretary General.

Stating that the general assembly election held this year witnessed a great competition, Ahmet Savaşan said that the countries that have served as Vice President twice as per the bylaws have won the right to be a candidate for the World Presidency and added: “In the second time the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been awarded the World Vice Presidency, the active work of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council in the international arena has contributed, as well as Turkey has played a decisive role through the Founding President Emin Çakmak. On behalf of the people of our country, I would like to thank Turkey and all other countries that voted positively for their sincere support to Northern Cyprus.”.

Stating that they discussed many important issues such as the present and future of Health Tourism, the development of cooperation opportunities between Network Offices in 58 countries, the more effective use of digital marketing opportunities in Health Tourism, Ahmet Savaşan pointed out that the most important decision taken at the meeting was to initiate work to increase the number of members of the World Health Tourism Council to 116.
“In line with the goal of doubling the current number of members of the GHTC, each member country will work for a country to become a member of the council until the general assembly meeting to be held in Ukraine in 2020,” Savaşan said.
