Cyprus Health Tourism Council President Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, in his message published on the 20th of July Peace Operation, pointed out that we owe it to the Peace Operation that we are struggling to solve our own problems today.
Cyprus Health Tourism Council President Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, In his message published on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the July 20th Peace Operation, he emphasized that there is a need for a new agreement in Cyprus, but it is clearly seen that it is the Greek Cypriot side that prevents this.
JULY 20TH PREVENTED THE ANNEXATION OF CYPRUS TO GREECE...
On July 20, 1974, Savaşan reminded that the reason for the operation was the determination of the Greek Cypriot side to use all the opportunities it had seized for enosis and said, “The Greek Cypriot side acted so decisively on enosis that they started to conflict among themselves about the methods by which they would eventually unite with Greece and attempted to stage a coup against their own leadership. It should be remembered that the July 20 Peace Operation prevented the annexation of Cyprus to Greece. This was the main purpose of this operation and it achieved its purpose.”.
THE AGREEMENT IS HINDERED BY THE RUM'S EFFORTS TO CLAIM THE WHOLE ISLAND...
Noting that the July 20 Peace Operation changed the shape of the Cyprus problem by causing Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots to gather in two separate regions, Savaşan said, “Today, it is certain that a new agreement is needed in accordance with this reality. However, this agreement is prevented by the Greek Cypriot side's efforts to claim the whole island. Unfortunately, some important powers of the world also support the Greek Cypriots and prevent the efforts for an agreement from being fruitful.”.
IF WE ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE ORDER, IT IS UP TO US TO CHANGE IT...
Pointing out that the Peace Operation prevented the annexation of Cyprus to Greece and provided the Turkish Cypriot people with new life opportunities, Savaşan said, “Our democratic life and economic prosperity are also a result of this operation. Even if we are struggling with various problems today, this is a result of our self-governance. Without the Peace Operation, we would not even have the opportunity to struggle for the solution of our problems; we would have been condemned to live as people who are completely dependent on others, deprived of the right to assert their will. If we have problems, if we are not satisfied with the order we live in, it is in our hands to change it and we owe the existence of this right to the July 20 Peace Operation.”.
WE OWE A DEBT OF GRATITUDE TO THE MUJAHIDEEN AND THE SOLDIERS...
Prof. Dr. Savaşan stated that we owe a debt of gratitude to the Turkish Armed Forces who carried out the July 20 Peace Operation that made the Turkish Cypriots a real people and gave them their political rights, to the politicians who made the decision of this operation, and to the Mujahideen and Mehmetçiks who were martyred and veterans during the operation, and said, “We commemorate our state elders who made this decision with respect; We wish mercy to our martyrs from Allah. May their souls rest in peace.”.
