National Unity Party FMC member Ahmet Savaşan shared an important detail with the public in the television program he attended.

National Unity Party FMC member Ahmet Warring referring to the memories of the then TKP MP Hasan Özbaflı, President Mustafa Akinci’He asked: “If in 1981 the authorities of the Republic of Turkey were, in their words, ‘making out’ with the authorities of the Republic of Turkey, has it become ”sit down Arab, get up Arab' to cooperate today?"

“IS SITTING DOWN NOW ARAB, GETTING UP ARAB?”

Referring to İsmail Bozkurt's article “A writer, a book”, Savaşan shared the memory of 1981. Savaşan shared the following part of the article, in which the memories of Hasan Özbaflı, Minister and MP of the period, were published, revealing the step taken by the TKP in 1981:

“The 1981 elections are important in our political history. First of all, this was the election in which the UBP lost its majority in the Parliament. For the first time, the possibility of a partnership government outside the UBP arose, and when that government could not be formed, the formation of a “grand coalition” between the two main parties, the UBP and the TKP, came to the agenda. Hasan Özbaflı says that they themselves brought up the UBP-TKP coalition. When I say themselves, I mean himself and Turgut Afşaroğlu. Mustafa Akinci’He talks about 'the Peace Forces Commander and the Ambassador of the time'. He tells how he and Turgut Afşaroğlu went to the Commander of the Peace Forces and the Ambassador of the time and cooked this up.

I was the General Secretary of the TKP at that time, but I read with astonishment such a “cooking job”. Mr. Özbaflı also tells that in order to take the ‘cooking job’ further, they “dealt with” me, that is, they removed me from the General Secretariat, which I also read with astonishment, because at that time I had left the General Secretariat myself! I will explain this situation with documents in my memoirs that are in the process of being written.

I am not writing this in anger, but I felt the need to mention it as a striking event that shows how the same event can be reflected differently.

While congratulating my friend Hasan Özbaflı, I sincerely recommend his book ‘Memories of the Victory of the Stateless’ to be read, especially by those who are curious about our recent political history.”

Based on the above letter, the President of the Republic Mustafa Akinci’s questions and criticisms, Savaşan said the following: “Today, TKP and Mr. Akıncı are saying ‘sit down Arab, get up Arab’ about our motivation to build a common future on the common interests of Turkey and TRNC. In 1981, as far as we understand from Mr. Özbaflı's pen, we read that they ‘cooked the books’ with Turkey to form the coalition government. If in those days they were ‘making business’ with the Turkish authorities to serve the people of the country, has it become ‘sit down Arab get up Arab’ to cooperate today?”

“WHY ERSIN TATAR?”

Prime Minister Ersin Tatar’s reasons for wanting to have him elected, Savaşan drew attention to the unity and integrity with Turkey and said, “Now, in the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, which we call real politics, someone who will be in favor of the Turkish Cypriots, who will be in favor of the economy, politically, someone who is in unity with Turkey should be elected. This has now emerged. This is our common ground. It is the path of reason for our common future. If the TRNC is to become economically stronger, it will probably not be by following the south, which wants to drown us in a spoonful of water, but by acting together with the motherland Turkey, which is a great power in the region. Ersin Tatarshould be elected,” he said.
