Participating in the “This is Important” program broadcast on BRT, National Unity Party (UBP) Central Executive Board Member Dr. Ahmet Warring, He evaluated the developments in the UBP, the opening to be made in tourism and the discussions about the series “Once Upon a Time in Cyprus”.
Answering Levent Kutay's questions Ahmet Warring, He pointed out that the discussions about the Once Upon a Time in Cyprus series upset him as well as many other people and that the issue should be approached in terms of its contribution to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
THE SERIES TELLS THE TRUTH...
Explaining that Northern Cyprus has been tried to be introduced to the public opinion in Turkey on various occasions for years Ahmet Warring, “Remember, at least two or three times Cyprus Year was declared in Turkey. But these steps were very insufficient in terms of explaining the existence, culture, richness and suffering of the Turkish Cypriot people. It is useful to look at the event from this perspective. We should ask the friends who heavily criticize the series: What kind of harm can there be in this series telling, reminding or teaching 80 million people in the Republic of Turkey about the Turkish Cypriot People and what they have suffered?” he asked.
NO CRITICISM FOR THOSE CELEBRATING THE FOUNDING OF EOKA!
Reminding that EOKA was founded on April 1, 1955 and the series was released on April 1 Ahmet Warring, pointing out that on the day the series was shown, the foundation of EOKA was celebrated in the Greek Cypriot side, he pointed out that it is thought-provoking that those who criticize the series do not make any criticism on this issue. Stating that it is not possible to understand the criticism of the series that brings up the realities experienced in Cyprus, while the fact that the establishment of EOKA is still being celebrated in the Greek side should be criticized, Savaşan said that the series should be discussed in terms of the benefits it will provide to our country.
IT WILL BE REMEMBERED THAT IT WAS NOT EASY TO GET TO THESE DAYS...
Pointing out the importance of a benefit-oriented approach to the series, Savaşan said, “With this series, 80 million people in Turkey will remember the Cyprus issue; they will remember the struggle of our ancestors through the suffering and that the Turkish Cypriot People did not come to these days easily.”.
THE SERIES WILL BE OF GREAT BENEFIT...
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot People, who want justice both in terms of governance and especially in terms of sharing the riches in the Eastern Mediterranean, do not want to suffer the difficulties they suffered in the past again. Ahmet Warring, “The Turkish Cypriot people have achieved the gains they have achieved today by resisting with their rightists and leftists. Although the series has some shortcomings and mistakes, what harm can there be in telling our brothers and sisters in Turkey about us, what we have suffered, our culture and the struggle. In summary, this series is an extremely important promotional move in terms of showing the resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people, their determination to protect their existence and how they resisted until the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In addition, this series will not only remind historical facts, but will also contribute greatly to the start of new collaborations or the development of existing relations in areas such as higher education, tourism and trade. Therefore, this step will create a great opportunity that will lead to extremely important and positive results. I find it useful for the friends who criticize to make their evaluations from this perspective.”.
NEGOTIATIONS MUST TAKE HISTORICAL FACTS INTO ACCOUNT...
Noting that it is obvious that the series “Once Upon a Time in Cyprus” broadcast by TRT brings historical facts to the agenda, UBP FMC Member Ahmet Warring, pointed out that it will be vital to keep historical facts in mind in the negotiations to be held if the Greek Cypriot side is to sit at the table again, and said the following: “The fact that the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot People was reminded with the broadcasting of the series before the 5-party summit has created an important awareness that a sustainable agreement can only be made on the island within the framework of equal sovereignty. If we embark on this path without forgetting the realities, we can ensure that the old pains are not experienced again. If we forget these facts and pursue an agreement or ’peace“ as some circles call it, it will not be possible to reach a sustainable agreement on the island. This movie reminds the world public opinion of the realities experienced on the island and gives an important message in terms of showing that the Turkish Cypriot People, who have a state with the decisive support of Turkey, want to enter a path where they will not suffer these pains once again.”.
