Cyprus Health Tourism Council President, UBP MP Dr. Ahmet Savaşan made a statement on the occasion of April 7 World Health Day and said, “The Healthy Cities Project should be adopted in the TRNC”.
Cyprus Health Tourism Council President, National Unity Party (UBP) MP Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, made a statement on the occasion of April 7, World Health Day Coronavirus highlighted that during the pandemic, there was a significant, albeit short-term, decline in air pollution in cities, with a particular focus on nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), which are directly related to traffic, which experienced a major reduction due to the lockdown measures.
Savaşan, Avrupa’daki bazı şehirlere ait verilere göre nitrojen oksit seviyelerinde kapanma öncesi miktarlara kıyasla yüzde 50 civarında, bazı yerlerde ise %70’e varan azalma görüldüğünü belirtti.
“CORONAVIRUS IS AN ONGOING TRAGEDY”
Savaşan, “Coronavirus, It is an ongoing tragedy, but the measures taken have shown that policies on transportation and the way people work, study and consume can contribute to better air quality. This is a consideration for the post-pandemic recovery policies that many countries are working on. These facts should also be taken into consideration in our country and appropriate policies should be developed.”.
“HEALTH FOR ALL PRINCIPLES MUST BE ADOPTED”
Stating that the Healthy Cities Project is a long-term development project aiming to improve the physical / social / psychological / environmental well-being of people living in the city in the light of the principles of “health for all” Ahmet Savaşan, Savaşan pointed out that the World Health Organization has been pioneering change for more than 30 years with the European Healthy Cities Network project, leading the way to create urban environments that support people's health and well-being. Mr. Savaşan underlined the need to accelerate efforts to comply with the European Healthy Cities Network in Northern Cyprus.

At the end of his message, Savaşan said, “In this difficult period when people feel helpless and in need of help, I congratulate the Health Day of the health workers who we entrust our lives and loved ones, who fulfill their duties despite all the difficulties, and I wish God's mercy to the health workers who lost their lives in this struggle.”.
