Ahmet Savaşan, Founding President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, said, “We aim to develop health tourism in Northern Cyprus in all branches.”.
Stating that they attract an average of 20 thousand health tourists from 30 countries, mainly from the UK, Germany and the Middle East, Savaşan said, “Those coming from countries that do not have direct flights to Northern Cyprus first land in Istanbul and then come to the island.”.
Emphasizing that they provide special services in areas such as heart diseases, cancer treatment and IVF, Savaşan gave the following information on the subject: “We will start receiving health tourists from 87 countries to Northern Cyprus with the map2heal international online patient reservation system, which was developed in cooperation with German Thieme Verlag and will provide professional translation services in 17 languages. We plan to attract more health tourists to the island by adding physical therapy, third age tourism, wellness, Thalasso Therapy to the subjects that we have reached a good position internationally in health tourism.”
Noting that the island has an important potential in terms of health tourism with its increasing number of qualified hospitals and clinics, especially the Near East University Hospital, Savaşan said, “Foreign patients make a great contribution to the economies of countries with their treatments and other expenditures. Health tourism creates a multiplier effect in economies with this feature. We believe that the added value created is more important than the number of people. The Cyprus Health Tourism Council has undertaken a mission for the development of health tourism on the island. We will also organize activities to increase the added value in the country.”
