Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, called for the implementation of the “Project for the Acquisition of Future Blood Donors” in the message he published on World Voluntary Blood Donors Day. Pointing out that understanding the importance of continuous blood donation is vital for the people of the country, Ahmet Savaşan stated that “Although the appearance of people is different, the blood flowing in their veins is the same. Underlining that voluntary blood donation is the most valuable gift, Savaşan expressed his belief that the “Project for the Acquisition of Future Blood Donors” should be launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Red Crescent, universities and non-governmental organizations.
AWARENESS OF CONTINUOUS BLOOD DONATION MUST BE RAISED...
Mr. Savaşan underlined that, as in many parts of the world, projects and practices such as these should be developed in the TRNC to increase the awareness of primary and secondary school students, parents, school administrators and teachers on voluntary and continuous blood donation, and that the project should be supported by awareness campaigns in the local area and spread to the whole society.
BLOOD SHOULD BE STATE POLICY...
Stating that although people want to do good in public health issues such as blood donation, these responsibilities are postponed due to many temporal and situational factors, Ahmet Savaşan pointed out that blood donation in our country usually comes up when a close friend or relative is in need. Stating that blood is the only medicine for many diseases, Savaşan said: “The only source of blood is human. In our country, it is essential to develop a state policy on reliable, gratuitous and voluntary blood donation. In this regard, we all have a duty, especially government officials.”.
