National Unity Party (UBP) Group Deputy Chairman and Nicosia District Chairman Ahmet Savaşan published a message for the new year.

In his message, Savaşan stated that the necessary steps will be taken with determination to make the year 2024 more comfortable in terms of economic difficulties and said, “Our determination to do whatever it takes to increase the incomes of the TRNC people and protect our low-income earners in the inflation environment that is predicted to continue will continue.”.

Ahmet Savaşan's message is as follows:

“We left the year 2023 behind with painful events and developments that made us smile. Today, as we start a new year, we have no choice but to wish that our pain will subside and our smiles will increase. Every new beginning means new hopes and it is in embracing these new hopes that we find the strength to continue living.

The year 2023 has unfortunately caused great and unforgettable suffering. The great earthquake in Turkey in February and the loss of our champion athletes in this earthquake will remain in our lives for many years as a trauma that caused deep wounds. It is also impossible to forget the suffering caused by the wars in our region. In the ongoing war in Gaza, the brutal attacks of the Israeli army, especially against children, have teared our hearts. The reckless repetition that this war will continue in 2024 is appalling.

In 2023, even though we experienced various economic problems, it was possible to mitigate the impact of these problems with the measures we took both as a state and as individuals, but it is not possible to bring back the lives lost. 2023 will go down in history as the year we lost our champion angels and the year the terrible Gaza war began.

In 2024, we hope for an end to all wars, a temporary halt to the war in Gaza and a peaceful solution to the Palestinian conflict. We will continue to seek justice for our champion angels and follow the Isias case. In the TRNC, taking the necessary precautions and being prepared for earthquakes, especially in our schools, is the biggest responsibility we have towards our champion angels. We could not protect them, but we owe it to them to do everything we can to protect the friends they left behind.

It is my greatest wish that 2024 will be more comfortable in terms of economic difficulties. Our determination to do whatever it takes to increase the incomes of the TRNC people and protect our low-income earners in an inflationary environment that is expected to continue will continue.

I congratulate the New Year of our people and all people with these feelings and thoughts; I wish that the year 2024 will be full of less pain and more cheerful developments.”
