The Ordinary General Assembly of the World Health Tourism Council was held in a special session at the World Health, Sports and Alternative Tourism Congress Fair, which was held in Antalya for the second time this year under the auspices of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment; it was stated that Rusyan Guliyev from Azerbaijan was elected as World President, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan from TRNC was elected as Vice President and Constantine Constantinides from Greece was elected as Secretary General in the election held under the chairmanship of Emin Çakmak, Founding President of the World Health Tourism Council, where the representatives of the countries that will shape the world health tourism in 2018 were determined.

Minister Fikri Ataoğlu expressed his satisfaction that Northern Cyprus was represented on equal footing with 57 countries at the World Health Tourism Council and that the TRNC flag was included along with all flags, and thanked Founding President Emin Çakmak for his decisive contribution to the TRNC's gaining this important representation.

Stating that they see 1.5 billion people living within a four-five-hour flight distance as a great potential for Northern Cyprus, Ataoğlu said, “We are taking the necessary steps to encourage these areas, like many countries in the world, in order to develop sports and other alternative tourism types, especially Health Tourism in our country, and to support them with contemporary, high-functioning laws and regulations suitable for our country.”.

Underlining that all delegates voted positively for the TRNC to be given the Vice Presidency of the World Council, which will shape the World Health Tourism, Ataoğlu noted that the success achieved with this vote has historical importance. At the end of his speech, Ataoğlu said “I sincerely thank all countries and delegates on behalf of my country and our people”.

Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, who reminded that TRNC was accepted to the World Council as the 54th member country and that they served as a member of the board of directors in the World Council in 2017, emphasized in his speech that Northern Cyprus has all the features required to be preferred in health tourism thanks to its geographical location, historical, touristic and humanitarian features, as well as the latest technology devices in its hospitals and IVF centers, specialist physicians using up-to-date information, international accreditations, as well as medical welness, spa applications offered in its hotels and price advantages combined with its potential in advanced age and disabled tourism.

Stating that they will make great efforts to maximize and develop the existing cooperation with 57 countries of the World Health Tourism Council in 2018, Savaşan said, “Our aim is to take the Presidency of the World Health Tourism Council to Northern Cyprus in 2020 and host the World Health Tourism Forum.”.
