UBP MP Ahmet Savaşan, who was in Iran for the conference he attended as an observer, reached Turkey after a difficult evacuation process.
National Unity Party (UBP) MP who was in Iran during the Israeli airstrikes on Iran Ahmet Savaşan and Remzi Gardiyanoğlu were right in the middle of the crisis. Savaşan, who was in Iran for the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) 3rd Health Tourism Conference, which he attended as an observer member, suddenly found himself in a ring of fire during the attacks.
In the hours when Iranian airspace was closed, security threats increased and diplomatic traffic intensified, an evacuation plan was prepared in coordination with the Turkish Embassy in Tehran. Savaşan left Iran for Turkey in a secured convoy, accompanied by bodyguards assigned by the embassy.
The arduous 12-hour overland journey was punctuated by security checks, communication interruptions and tense waits. However, Savaşan and the accompanying delegation reached the Turkish border at dawn and entered the country safely.
“Thank God, we are in Turkey,” he said on social media, sharing his feelings. Cüneyt Akbal, law enforcement officers and all the officials who took part in the process.
Savaşan also thanked the government officials of the Republic of Turkey who closely followed the process, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar’to Prime Minister Unal Üstel’Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Fikri Ataoglu’to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu’a special thank you.
Expressing his gratitude to his family, friends and everyone who made him feel that they were with him with messages of support, Savaşan shared his post as follows: “We are in Turkey. We are fine. We are safe”.
