TRNC delegation discussed the effects of climate change on health and cooperation opportunities at the TURKPA Health Commissions Meeting.

 

Deputy Chairman of the Republican Assembly Administrative, Public and Health Affairs Committee CTP MP Filiz Besim and Committee Member UBP Group Deputy Chairman Ahmet Savaşan, Mr. Ali Ali attended the Second Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Health Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The meeting was held under the theme “Climate Change and Health: Legislative Response to the Impacts of Climate Change on Health”.

WIDE PARTICIPATION FROM THE TURKIC WORLD

The meeting, hosted by the Health Committee of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan, was attended by the TRNC delegation and the parliamentary delegations of Turkey, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, while the Kazakhstan delegation took part in the meeting online.

STARTED WITH MONUMENT VISITS

Prior to the meeting, the participating delegations visited the mausoleum of Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev and the Azerbaijani Martyrdom and laid flowers at the monuments. Then the delegations went to the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan where the meeting will be held.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND HEALTH DISCUSSED

MPs representing the TRNC participated in the meeting Filiz Besim and Ahmet Savaşan, The panelists gave speeches on the effects of climate change on health and the measures that the legislature should take in this regard.

MEETING AND RECEPTION AT THE PRESIDENCY OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF AZERBAIJAN

Following the speeches, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Ali Ahmedov received the guest delegations in his office. During the reception, issues such as strengthening relations between the countries, development of joint projects in the fields of health and environment were discussed. While expressing his satisfaction with the visit of the guest delegations to Baku, Ahmedov emphasized the importance of the Turkic world to act in line with common goals.

TÜRKPA SECRETARIAT VISIT AND BRIEFING

Following the meeting, the participants paid an official visit to the TURKPA Secretariat. During the visit, Secretary General Ambassador Mehmet Süreyya Er briefed the delegations in detail on TURKPA's current activities, objectives and efforts to enhance parliamentary cooperation in the Turkic world. During the meeting, TURKPA's projects in the fields of health, environment and social policy were discussed, as well as strategies for enhancing cooperation among the member countries. The visit contributed to building stronger ties among the participating countries in line with common values and goals.

JOINT STEPS WILL BE TAKEN IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH

The delegation of the Assembly of the Republic was accompanied by Ambassador Ufuk Turganer, TRNC Representative in Baku, and Görkem Reis, 3rd Secretary of the Baku Representation.

The meetings in Baku are considered as an important step towards developing common solutions on the relationship between climate change and health among Turkic states.
