The Health Tourism Council expressed support for the “Come and Wear Your Socks” event to be held by Nicosia Turkish Municipality on March 21, World Down Syndrome Day.
The President of the Council, Ahmet Savaşan, stated that on March 21, World Down Syndrome Day, various events are organized in many parts of the world by choosing different topics in order to raise social awareness, and stated that they support the Come and Wear Your Socks event organized by Nicosia Turkish Municipality, which we believe will contribute to the development of social awareness on this issue in our country.
THEY EASILY PARTICIPATE IN SOCIAL LIFE...
Pointing out that education is the most important requirement for the socialization of people with Down syndrome, Savaşan emphasized that people with Down syndrome are successful in society with the education initiated from birth. Noting that almost all people with Down syndrome today go to school and are successful, Savaşan said: “In our age, these people can easily participate in social life and most of them can lead semi-independent lives.”.
THEY SUCCEED WITH REGULAR AND DISCIPLINED TRAINING...
Noting that these individuals, who used to be considered unable to read, can now graduate from high school and even university, Savaşan said, “People born with Down syndrome can learn a second language, work and succeed in life with regular and disciplined education starting from birth.”.
IN 40 YEARS, SUCCESS HAS INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY...
Underlining that the increase in both learning and independent living levels with various education and therapies applied in the world in the last 40 years has led to great results, Savaşan said that Down syndrome is not a disease.
A SUSTAINABLE STRUCTURE NEEDS TO BE ESTABLISHED...
Pointing out that in order to develop social awareness on this issue, the state, private sector and non-governmental organizations should work hand in hand and heart to establish a sustainable structure, not just one day a year, Savaşan said, “We see that this awareness exists in our country. I believe that our people will also show the necessary sensitivity to the issue and support such activities.”.
