The Cyprus Health Tourism Council emphasized in its message published on the occasion of July 20 Peace and Freedom Day that July 20 is a day when the Turkish Cypriot people were born again.
Emphasizing that July 20, 1974 was a turning point in the history of Cyprus and the life of the Turkish Cypriots, Council President Ahmet Savaşan reminded that the July 15, 1974 coup d'état was carried out to destroy the Republic of Cyprus with the aim of spreading Greek hegemony to the whole island and turning Cyprus into a Hellenic island, which the military junta in Greece and its extensions in Cyprus had dreamed of since the island passed from the Ottoman Empire to the British in 1878. Pointing out that this treacherous plan was prevented from reaching its goal thanks to the military operation initiated by Turkey, our guarantor and the motherland of the Turkish Cypriots, on the night of July 19 and actually carried out on the morning of July 20, Savaşan emphasized that July 20 is a day when the Turkish Cypriot was reborn.
THE TURKISH PEOPLE OF CYPRUS IS ONE OF THE TWO PEOPLES WITH RIGHTS...
Stating that thanks to the Happy Peace Operation, the Turkish Cypriot people came out of the ghettos where they lived in captivity for eleven years, Savaşan also stated that the Mujahideen Turkish Cypriot People, who fought for existence heart to heart and shoulder to shoulder with the heroic Mehmetçik against the Greek-Greek coup, showed to the whole world that they are one of the two peoples who have rights in the territory of Cyprus.
Reminding that in 1977 and 1979, the outlines of a possible settlement were determined with the Denktaş-Makarios and Denktaş-Kyprianou summit agreements, Savaşan underlined that until today, there have been many years of negotiations for the establishment of a bi-zonal bi-communal federal structure based on political equality in Cyprus.
A NEW ROAD MAP MUST BE DEFINED...
Stressing that the events since 1963, as well as the negotiations in Mont Pelerin in November last year, in Geneva in January and in Crans Montana between June 28 and July 7, should be evaluated objectively, Savaşan emphasized that the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and Greece, which insist on Turkey's guarantorship, the elimination of the right to unilateral intervention arising from international agreements and the reduction of the number of Turkish troops to zero, have shown that they have not given up their old goals and dreams. Stating that the whole world should now see this reality, Savaşan underlined that what needs to be done is to determine a new road map, as expressed by many segments more and more every day.
WE WILL PROTECT THE VALUE OF FREEDOM...
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot People will be eternally grateful to the soldiers and mujahideen who lost their lives and became veterans during the struggle for existence, Savaşan said, “We will never forget this precious sacrifice of our martyrs and veterans who gave their lives for our homeland and freedom, which are our most sacred values, and as long as we live, we will protect the value of this homeland land and freedom that our ancestors gave their lives for.”.
