The UN serves to maintain the status quo on the island.

Stating that the December 21-25 process was an honorable resistance that included great suffering, Savaşan said, “Today, if we, as the Turkish Cypriot People, can maintain our existence on the island, if we can achieve many gains thanks to our state, even if it is not recognized, we owe this to our beloved martyrs, veterans and our resilient country people and Turkey. What we need is to take lessons from the pain experienced on the island and to insist on achieving stability in politics and developing the country's economy and creating a new order in which we will be happy in all areas of life, from health to education, from agriculture to trade. With these feelings and thoughts, in this important week, I commemorate our martyrs who gave their lives for the freedom of the Turkish Cypriot People with mercy and our veterans with gratitude.”.
