Health Tourism Council President Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, in his message published on the occasion of the World Day of Persons with Disabilities, pointed out that in societies where all citizens do not take part in social and economic life, do not integrate, do not have equal opportunities and rights, unity and solidarity and sustainable development cannot be mentioned.

Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan underlined that ensuring harmony and cohesion with the vulnerable groups of the society is possible with equality, which is the most fundamental principle of law, and emphasized that December 3, World Day of Persons with Disabilities is an extremely important day in terms of drawing attention to the problems of the disabled, raising awareness and listening to their demands.

 Cities should be accessible...

Stating that everyone has a duty to ensure that disabled citizens can maintain their lives as productive and free individuals in line with the principle of full participation and equality in social and economic life, Savaşan said: “The government, the President of the Republic, public institutions and non-governmental organizations have great duties in fulfilling the extremely natural demands of our disabled people such as taking part in all areas of life without the need for anyone's help, having qualified and accessible education opportunities, making cities accessible and spreading this awareness to all segments of society.”.

The onus is on the government and the relevant minister

Stating that the duty to produce permanent solutions to all other problems, especially the employment problems of our disabled people, falls on the government and the relevant minister, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan emphasized that it is a great weakness that the Barrier-Free Living House, which is an essential need for our country, has not yet been opened. Savaşan invited all relevant parties to be more sensitive for the opening of the Barrier-Free Living House as soon as possible and thanked the public institutions, non-governmental organizations and people who have fulfilled their responsibilities for the disabled in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus so far and wished a country without barriers.
