Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, called for mobilization for tourism in his message published on the occasion of Tourism Week.
Pointing out that there have been significant changes and transformations in the demand for tourism in recent years, Savaşan said that there have been positive changes in the demographic structure of the touristic audience such as education and culture, and with the effect of this change, concepts such as environmental values, environmental sensitivity and environmental awareness have come to the fore.
INCREASED SENSITIVITY TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES...
Stating that this change is effective in determining touristic activities, Savaşan underlined that the conscious tourism audience understands the importance of the environment and natural resources for tourism activities and is sensitive to the protection and development of these values.
MODERN AND GREEN APPROACHES HAVE EVOLVED...
Emphasizing that touristic regions and products that can demonstrate this sensitivity are preferred today, Savaşan said that the traditional approach, which focused only on the production dimension in the sustainability of tourism activities, has been replaced by modern and environmentalist approaches that take into account production and demand conditions.
WE MUST DIVERSIFY OUR PRODUCTS WITH A NEW UNDERSTANDING...
Stating that the target tourist group and touristic supply structure in Northern Cyprus should be determined based on these facts, Savaşan said, “We should develop new values and touristic products that increase the motivation of this new target group in our country, while protecting natural values, environmentally sensitive and high added value.”.
WE DID NOT INHERIT THE WORLD FROM OUR ANCESTORS...
“Referring to the Indian proverb ”We did not inherit the world from our ancestors, we borrowed it from our children", Savaşan said that it is essential to develop a sustainable tourism policy for our children. Stating that this goal can only be achieved by developing tourism awareness throughout the country, Savaşan said that education and social activities should be continued uninterruptedly to develop tourism awareness.
WE ARE READY TO CONTRIBUTE
Ahmet Savaşan said that a “mobilization in tourism” must be initiated in order to improve tourism awareness and underlined that in order for the mobilization to yield results, the relevant ministries, especially the Ministries of Tourism, Interior, Education and Health, universities and the sector must act together. Finally, Ahmet Savaşan added that both the sector and the Health Tourism Council are ready to contribute to such a work.
