WHO IS SEVGEN İZEL?
Sevgen İzel was born in Istanbul on August 2, 1999. After completing her secondary and high school education at TED Northern Cyprus College in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, she started to study Medicine at Near East University. İzel, who is 22 years old and still a 5th year student of the Faculty of Medicine, has 2 books, 1 feature film and 6 different short films.
Izel, who is currently attending various trainings in the field of cinema as well as medicine, started her artistic career in middle school with the support and help of her Turkish language and literature teacher. She won awards in various letter, composition and poetry competitions. As she won, her self-confidence increased and she started to write and produce new things. Then, at the age of 12, she published her poetry book titled “THE SEA INSIDE ME”. She published this book on her mother's birthday and presented it as a gift to her mother. Not only poems, essays and compositions, Izel added a new interest to her life and started to develop herself on short films and screenplays.
With the help of his teachers at his school, he started to produce works and projects. She also participated in many short film and screenplay competitions, both representing her school and personally, in Turkey and abroad. In early 2016, Izel attracted a lot of attention with her short film “HAYAT” about her brother's life and managed to attract the attention of many television channels and radios. She was repeatedly screened and interviewed on channels. She was also selected third in the public vote in the short film competition. Afterwards, she continued to write different scripts without wasting any time. His scripts usually deal with important social responsibility issues. For example, in the movie “SALINCAK”, which he wrote after the movie Hayat, he addressed the refugee issue.
The lyrics of the song “LOST Dove”, which was composed for another short film, also belongs to Sevgen İzel. In February 2017, he was selected as the youngest director in an international competition with 700 films and 608 directors in Turkey. Immediately afterwards, in May, the film “RULET”, which he wrote for a short film competition organized in Cyprus, was selected as the first and was presented to the audience with a beautiful award ceremony. Izel, who spent 2017 full of successes, made the last move of 2017 in favor of the book and brought her first novel together with the readers. The novel titled ’YAZGI’ is full of memories, difficulties and the most sincere sincere feelings told through the eyes of a patient in a vegetative state and his family. Izel, who received the appreciation of the readers, added a new experience to her life with the book presentation and first signing day. At the book signing with more than 400 participants, she announced that she would donate the proceeds of the book to the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation for Children with Leukemia and Cancer. As the appreciation of the book increased, she was invited to many signing days, events and programs.
In a ceremony organized in Turkey in the following period, he achieved a good success and added a new one to his memories by receiving the “Most Promising Young’ award. Sevgen İzel, who increased her experience in many similar film festivals, managed to complete her first feature film in 2018.
After a crowded premiere, the movie “RED”, in which he undertook both the main casting, screenwriting and directing, is currently competing abroad. In 2020, although the art sector was shaken with the pandemic entering our lives, he continues to complete his education in this direction during the period he stays at home. In addition to the heavy education process, Izel, who made an unexpected reverse corner, also performed the piece titled “HILAL”, which she wrote and composed with her music student Togay Özyay, and presented it to the audience.
