Prime Minister Dt. UBP Famagusta MP Resmiye Canaltay, who was appointed as the Chairperson of the committee formed by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, announced that together with non-governmental organizations, they have started working for fast passage at all land entry gates.

Prime Minister Dt. Unal Üstel’s instruction, the committee formed to solve the problems at the border gates started to work.

Prime Minister Üstel had recently had the opportunity to see the problems on the spot during his inspections and audits at the land border gates and stated that a committee would be formed on this issue and that the problems would be solved as soon as possible.

UBP Famagusta Deputy for the Chairmanship of the Committee Resmiye Canaltay was appointed. Also in the committee, UBP Nicosia MPs Ahmet Savaşan with Alişan Şan, Representatives from the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Interior, the Highways Department, the Police Immigration Department and the Economic Organizations Platform.

Prime Minister Unal Üstel’s directive, the committee has held two meetings so far. During the meetings, the problems faced by citizens and visitors at land border gates were discussed and solutions were proposed.

CANALTAY: WITH THE ARRANGEMENTS TO BE MADE, THE RELIEF AT THE GATES WILL BE VISIBLE

Committee Chairman UBP Famagusta MP Resmiye Canaltay, the committee's Prime Minister Unal Üstel and he was appointed as the chairman.

Stating that two meetings have been held so far and that the goal is to realize the things to be done first in the short term and then in the long term as soon as possible, Canaltay said that they are rolling up their sleeves for regulations that will accelerate the country's economy.

Canaltay explained that the crossings of both Greek Cypriots and tourists from south to north and from north to south will be relieved in a short time. He emphasized that this step will also provide serious gains to the country's economy.

Canaltay pointed out that with the decisions to be taken by the committee, transitions could be made more easily and said, “While the slowness of the computers at the gates, the insufficient number of immigration officers and the congestion at the gates increased, there were also structural problems. Prime Minister at the beginning of the week on these issues Unal Üstel’s presidency, we held another meeting with the participation of officials from the Economic Organizations Platform. Today, we called the Ministry of Finance to a meeting and discussed the measures we will take.”.

Canaltay emphasized that the arrangements are also financially possible and said that the Platform of Economic Organizations will also assume financial responsibility. Canaltay thanked the Presidents of Economic Organizations for their cooperation.

“THE PLATFORM OF ECONOMIC ORGANIZATIONS WILL DO ALL THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE GATES”

Canaltay stated that the Economic Organizations Platform will do their part in the entire arrangement of the gates, infrastructure, superstructure and maintenance and repair, and said that a protocol will be signed with them on this issue.

Stating that they will also carry out a study with insurance companies regarding the slowdown in passages at the gates, Canaltay continued as follows:

“The biggest problem at the land border crossings is the Beyarmudu crossing. We have also met with the British superiors and requested that the gate be widened or moved back a little further. The bridge project has been drawn by the Planning and Construction Department. With the construction of these, there will be a relief at this gate.

The cabins and cabins at the Lokmacı gate in Nicosia will also be replaced. A complete change will be made here and a relief will be provided at this gate as well.”

“WE EXPECT A BIG CHANGE IN METEHAN”

Explaining that a major change will be made at the Metehan border gate, Canaltay said that the change of this gate will be made together with the Economic Organizations Platform.

Noting that steps will be taken to improve the gates in a very short period of time and that these will continue, Canaltay said, “We have made every attempt to solve the problems at the gates by finding practical solutions in the short term and we will continue to do so from now on. First of all, I would like to thank our Prime Minister for trusting me and making me the chairman of the committee. I would also like to thank those who took part in our committee as well as the Economic Organizations Platform, which undertook the regulation of the gates.”.
