Savaşan: “Greek Armament and Military Cooperation with the United States Makes Any Solution Impossible”

He called on supporters of a federal solution to oppose the arming of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus.

UBP Nicosia MP Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, who evaluated the agenda of the country by participating in the program called Burası Önemli (This is Important), which was broadcast on BRT and presented by Levent Kutay, drew attention to the armament of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and its military cooperation with the USA, and emphasized that this situation increased the tension in the region by making any solution on the island impossible.

MPS IN FAVOR OF A FEDERAL SOLUTION SHOULD REACT...

Pointing out that the escalating tension in the region and the intensification of armament on the island will make any solution impossible, Ahmet Savaşan said, “I believe that especially the MPs who are in favor of a federal solution should react by raising their voices as much as possible against the developments”.

DEVELOPMENTS CAUSE TENSIONS IN CYPRUS AND THE REGION...

Stating that there are extremely important developments in the region, Ahmet Savaşan underlined that these developments do not serve any solution in Cyprus, on the contrary, they cause a significant tension in Cyprus and the region.

Drawing attention to the fact that while these developments are taking place, some segments are trying to protect the basis of the agreement as a federation, Ahmet Savaşan said, “these developments make any solution, let alone a federal solution, impossible. Therefore, these developments should first of all be condemned and tried to be prevented by those who want a federal solution.” Savaşan said that it is necessary to stop acting as if there are those in the South who really want a federal solution and that Turkey and our government oppose it, and added: “We must now understand that the federal solution has been removed from the agenda as a result of the uncompromising attitude of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus for half a century, and therefore a new era has begun. This new era has been announced to the world by both our President Ersin Tatar and the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In this new period, it is up to all of us to establish a more effective and efficient political mechanism, to strengthen our state and to take steps to increase the welfare of our country's people.”.
