UBP MP Ahmet Savaşan said, “What will protect us from the devastating effects of natural disasters is to implement the measures.”.
National Unity Party (UBP) MP who is a member of the Ad-hoc and Special (ad-hoc) Committee established in the Republican Assembly to regulate the legislation on natural disasters and earthquakes Ahmet Savaşan, shared a post on his personal social media account.
Stating that their task is not over; on the contrary, it has just begun, Savaşan said, “It is not about making determinations on paper or taking precautions! What is important and what will protect us from the devastating effects of natural disasters is to put the measures into practice.”.
Pointing to the issue of the children and citizens who lost their lives in Isias Hotel Ahmet Savaşan, “Although it will not ease the pain of our children and citizens who lost their lives at the Isias Hotel, we are working to closely follow the legal developments and intervene in the judicial process. We are aware of our important duty as MPs. We will fulfill this duty with great sensitivity and keep the process under observation.”.
Ahmet Savaşan’s message is as follows:
“We have buried our sorrows in our hearts; we will continue to live with them. We had to start working immediately to minimize the damages of a possible earthquake and other natural disasters; we did.
First, we have identified what needs to be done urgently to reduce the damages of natural disasters: Public buildings, starting with schools, will be examined and the necessary actions will be identified. Teams and equipment needed to respond to natural disasters will be strengthened.
There is a need for legal arrangements to ensure that the identification and interventions in our country are carried out effectively and that the new structure to be established can be sustainable, as well as to support the shelter needs in earthquake zones in Turkey and our earthquake-affected students studying in our country. We are determined to make all these arrangements with a participatory approach.
In order to do these things, not only determination is needed, but also resources... In the first phase, we have evaluated the resources that can be allocated from the state budget. It is not enough... We also need the contribution of our people for urgent expenditures. We envisage that this contribution will be voluntary...
We are also working to closely follow the legal developments and intervene in the judicial process, even though this will not ease the pain of our children and citizens who lost their lives at the Isias Hotel. We are aware of our important duty as MPs. We will fulfill this duty with great sensitivity and keep the process under observation.
Our task is not over; on the contrary, it is just beginning. It is not about making determinations or taking precautions on paper! What is important and what will protect us from the devastating impact of natural disasters is to put these measures into practice.
We will continue to work to implement measures to protect our people from natural disasters. I believe that the efforts of our government with the contributions of all stakeholders as well as the political parties in the parliament will succeed with the support of our people.”
