UBP Secretary General and Deputy Group Chairman Ahmet Savaşan, answering questions on the agenda on KIBRIS TV, stated that the evaluation process for the cost of living regulation is continuing. Savaşan pointed out that the process is being reconsidered on the basis of social consensus and stated that efforts are underway to create a roadmap that is more inclusive and can be agreed upon by a wider segment of the population.
The consultation process is progressing multidimensionally.
Savaşan stated that the issue was discussed at the UBP Group meeting, followed by a joint group meeting with the coalition partners, and that the process was consulted in all its dimensions. Savaşan also conveyed that the UBP Central Executive Board (MYK) will convene shortly to conduct a comprehensive evaluation.
Social feedback guides the process
Savaşan emphasized that public feedback was taken into account during the evaluation process, stating that the views of different segments are an important part of the democratic process and that these contributions enable the production of more sound and widely accepted solutions.
A culture of compromise is at the forefront.
Savaşan stated that the laws submitted to the Parliament concerning HP have generated a broader societal discussion than expected, and therefore the process is being re-examined and contacts with relevant stakeholders are ongoing. Savaşan noted that the government is in dialogue with its coalition partners, the opposition, unions, and economic organizations, as well as conducting its own internal assessments. He emphasized that the work being done is not a step backward but a natural consequence of participatory governance and a culture of consensus.
A more balanced transition model is in development.
Savaşan stated that the new regulation regarding the cost of living takes the current system, which foresees payments in June and December, as its basis, and that a more balanced transition model for payment timing is being worked on. Noting that different options are being evaluated, Savaşan emphasized that no loss of rights is foreseen in this process.
The goal is to reduce tensions and strengthen Parliament.
Savaşan stated that dialogue channels are being kept open for the parliament's work to proceed on a healthier footing, emphasizing the importance of constructive contributions from all political actors.
Emphasis on common sense and cooperation
At the end of his speech, Savaşan stated that in this period of economic uncertainty, the most important priority is to act with common sense and consensus, and expressed his belief that the process will mature with the contribution of all parties.
