Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council and UBP Nicosia Deputy Candidate Candidate Ahmet Savaşan pointed out that the environment is one of the most important problems of our country and the world in a television program he attended. Savaşan said, “The sole purpose of economic science is sustainable development, which is to meet the needs of the present generation without disrupting the needs of future generations.”.

There is an increase in the amount and types of waste...
Stating that the environment plays an important role in the lives of all living things, Council President Ahmet Savaşan underlined that factors such as population growth, urbanization and industrialization are important factors in increasing environmental pollution. Stating that environmental problems have been at the forefront of the world's agenda since the second half of the last century, Savaşan said that due to factors such as population growth, urbanization and acceleration of industrialization, there has been an increase in the amount and types of wastes released into the environment.

Environment is not only our problem but the world's problem...
Stating that environmental pollution mainly appears as air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and noise pollution, Savaşan said that the environmental problem is not only experienced in our country, this problem is one of the most important problems of the world. Stating that the increase in environmental problems has expanded the dimensions of environmental pollution from local pollution shaped as solid waste pollution to regional pollution shaped as acid rain and global pollution emerging as global warming and ozone layer depletion, Ahmet Savaşan said that the serious threats of environmental problems on humans and other living things are increasing day by day.

The impact of environmental problems can be lethal.
Noting that the main diseases caused by environmental pollution on living beings include various respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, cardiovascular diseases, kidney disorders, various cancer and eye diseases, infectious diseases, hearing disorders and stress, Savaşan emphasized that these diseases can often result in death in humans, plants and animals.

Sustainable development is gaining importance...
Explaining that the increase in the dimensions and harmful effects of environmental pollution has increased the sensitivity to environmental issues in development and growth efforts, Ahmet Savaşan pointed out that these efforts have caused the concept of “sustainable development”, which is expressed as meeting the needs of the present generation without jeopardizing the needs of future generations, to gain importance both nationally and internationally.

We have to shape life within the limitations of our planet.
Explaining that it is calculated that if the current production and consumption habits continue and the population reaches 9.6 billion in 2050, 3 planets will be needed to sustain our lives, Savaşan said that the best strategy for a healthy future is to shape life within the limitations of the planet.

Environmental policies need to be revised...
Underlining that sustainability in all areas of life, especially in tourism, can only be possible in a healthy environment, Savaşan stated that the healthy future of the world depends on consuming resources knowing the limits of what the planet can offer. Stating that it is inevitable and vital for states to review their policies on the basis of these facts and take measures, Savaşan said: “Within the self-renewal capacity of the planet, if we follow its rules, we can create a sustainable society together and live in prosperity by redefining our current consumption culture within this society.”.
